    Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC)

Also known as "NBAC" - natural birth after cesarean,
or "HBAC" - homebirth after cesarean.

At this time, under the Idaho Midwifery License, VBAC is allowed with homebirth - with some limitations.

Under the current rules, a midwife may not provide care for a woman who has had more than one cesarean section, a c-section within eighteen months of the current delivery, or any c-section that was done with a classical (vertical) uterine incision.

(Editor's Note: Some of the new statutes raise questions as the statistics used were NOT based upon current CPM outcomes. They are comparisons with vaginal birth without prior C-section, however, they reflect medical model of care in childbirth that included induced and otherwise medicated births and/or other hospital methods. At this time, an average of one in every three hospital deliveries is a cesarean section.)

Due date can be estimated and prior surgical history assessed, with your midwife consultation.

For women who will be having a c-section or repeat c-section, doula support may be available for you, during your "belly birth".
